Yalin 12 yaşında doğayı seven sevimli bir kızdı. Ona her zaman yardım eden bir de köpeği vardı. Köpeğinin adı Köpük’tü. Yalin küçük, sakin ve mutlu bir kasabada yaşıyordu, orada herkes birbirini tanırdı. Fakat bu mutlu kasaba birdenbire mutsuzlaşmaya başladı. İnsanlar sürekli bağırıyordu, küfür ediyordu, hayvanlara eziyet ediyordu. Sanki herkes delirmişti. Sanki insanlar birbirlerini duymuyordu. Kimse kimseyi önemsemiyordu. İnsanlar daha çok birbirinden nefret ediyordu, birbiriyle kavga ediyorlardı. Güneş eskisi gibi parlamıyordu. Deniz eskisi gibi berrak değildi. İnsanların gözlerindeki parlaklık artık gitmişti.
Bu durum Yalin’i çok üzüyordu. Bu mutsuzluk salgınını yok edecek bir çözüm arıyordu. Yalin bu sorunu çözmek için insanların üzerinde deneyler yapıp durdu fakat ne kadar denese de bu salgını durduramadı. Hatta bu salgının daha da yayıldığını endişeyle fark etti. Yalin uzun uzun düşündü ve en sonunda aklına harika bir fikir geldi. İnsanlar türlü renklerden oluşurdu, önemli olan farklı renklerin bir arada mutlu bir şekilde yaşayabilmesiydi, tıpkı gökkuşağı gibi. Bu yüzden de dilden dile dolaşan efsanevi Gökkuşağı Tepesi’ne giderek bu sorunu çözebilirdi. Ancak çekindiği bir şey vardı: Hikayelerde orada bir gökkuşağı muhafızı olduğu söyleniyordu.
Yalin Gökkuşağı Tepesi’ne gitmek için hazırlandı ve yola koyuldu. Köpeği de onunla birlikteydi. Tepeye vardığında gece olmuştu ancak Gökkuşağı Tepesi’nin renkleri etrafı aydınlatıyordu. Gece olmasına rağmen gündüzdü. Yalin merakla etrafı inceliyordu. O sırada gökkuşağı muhafızı belirdi. Bu muhafızın giydiği zırh gökkuşağı tozundan yapılmıştı. Yalin kasabadaki korkunç mutsuzluğa son vermek için onun yardımına ihtiyacı olduğunu söyledi. Muhafız ciddi bir sesle yanıtladı: “Sana yardım ederim ama bir şartım var. Sana soracağım soruyu bilirsen herkesin gözlerindeki parlaklığı ve mutluluğu geri getirecek gökkuşağı tozunu sana veririm.” Yalin “Sorun, her şeyi yanıtlamaya hazırım” dedi. Muhafız sorusunu sordu: “Mutluluğu neyle görürüz? Kalple mi, yoksa gözle mi?” Yalin düşündü ama yanıt veremedi. Doğru yanıtın bazen kalp olduğunu düşündü, bazen de göz. O sırada köpeği Köpük havladı ve sonra patileriyle gözlerini kapadı. Görmüyordu ama mutluydu. O halde göz olamazdı. Kalbin de tek başına mutluluğu göremeyeceğini düşündü. Köpük’ten aldığı ipucu işe yaramıştı. Birdenbire neşeyle “kalbin gözü” bu dedi. Muhafız “doğru” dedi ve ona zırhından çıkardığı gökkuşağı tozu kesesini uzattı. Yalin gökkuşağını tozu kesesini neşeyle kabul etti ve Köpük’le birlikte şehrine geri döndü. Kasabaya gider gitmez, ilk işi yüksek bir yere çıkarak bu gökkuşağı tozunu kasabaya doğru savurmak oldu. İnsanların gözlerindeki parlaklık ve mutluluk geri gelmeye başlamıştı bile.
Yalin was a cute 12-year-old girl who loves nature. She also had a dog, called Köpük, that helped her every time she was in need. Yalin was living in a small, calm and happy town where everyone knew each other, but suddenly this happy community began to be unhappy. Residents of the town were constantly yelling, swearing at each other, and being cruel to animals. It was as if everyone was mad with anger, like no one heard each other. Nobody minded anyone else. People hated and fought with each other. The sun was not as bright as it used to be. The sea had lost its former clear appearance. The brightness in people’s eyes had already disappeared.
This situation greatly upset Yalin. She was looking for a solution to eliminate this outbreak of unhappiness. Yalin studied the people very closely to solve this problem, but she couldn’t stop the outbreak despite her efforts. She even anxiously noticed that the outbreak spread further and further every day. She thought long and hard about it and finally found a great idea. She remembered people were made of various colors; and the important things is to keep different colors alive, happily and together, just like a rainbow. Therefore, she could solve this problem by climbing the famous and legendary Rainbow Hill whose stories circulate in the town. But there was something scaring her. It was said in the stories that there was a rainbow guard on that hill.
Yalin was prepared to climb Rainbow Hill and set off. Her dog was also with her. Night had fallen when she reached the hill, but the bright colors of Rainbow Hill was illuminating the surrounding area. It was daytime, although it was night. Yalin was looking around with curiosity. Just then, the rainbow guard appeared. His armor was made of rainbow dust. Yalin said she needed his help to stop the terrible unhappiness in town. The guard answered with a serious voice: “I will help you, but I have one condition for that. I will ask you a question and if you answer correctly, I will give you the rainbow dust that will bring back the brilliancy and happiness in all inhabitants’ eyes. Yalin said, “I’m ready to answer everything.” The guard asked his question: “So tell me, how can we see happiness? With heart or through eyes?” She thought but could not respond. Sometimes she thought the right answer was the heart, sometimes the eyes. Meanwhile her dog, Köpük lay himself on the floor and began covering his eyes with his paws, yet he still smiled. Köpük wasn’t seeing but he looked happy. Then the answer couldn’t be the eyes and she decided at the same time that the heart alone wasn’t enough to see happiness. Köpük’s help worked. Suddenly, she said cheerfully “Eyes of the heart”. The guard said “Right answer, well done” and handed her the pouch of rainbow dust he took out of his armor. Yalin gladly accepted the rainbow dust pouch and returned to her town with Köpük. As soon as she set foot in the town, her first job was to go up on top of a high building in town and from there to throw the rainbow dust over the city. Already, the brightness and happiness in people’s eyes started to revive.
