TÜRKÇE

Demek bu yüzdendi. Her şeyin sebebi burasıymış.

So that was why. This place was the reason for everything. This bench, this park, the hard and bitter wind that hits my face. This place I sit, caused every feeling I had slain in my heart to be reborn. That’s why I got hurt as soon as I sat here. Just like the clash of hot and cold,  I felt every single emotion in every little part of me. For better or worst, they came face to face within.

Now I remember this vicious circle. Every object I look at, every sound I hear, I feel them stronger now.  Apparently life is made up of one word after another that you say you’ll never say. And I discovered this as someone who hates cliches. Because over time, I became a cliché. When I look at you, I can see the emptiness in me. I know that all the castles built inside are falling apart. I can feel that all kinds of abstractions found a body to touch my face. Sometimes eyes aren’t enough to see, kid. Right now, I realize you are staring at me blankly yet unfortunately you won’t be understanding things for another while.

Watch the snow fall well, scratch it so deep in your memory that no one can take it away from you.

Feel the wind blowing in each of your cells, so that it sticks to your skin. This thing called time, is broken dear young one, full of sorrows. It’s not like a stab wound or melancholy at night, a heartache as you lay weeping in your bed alone. This pain is very different. Complaining from the brokennes of time, while being a part of something broke, is the most fearsome reflection of reality. We ‘re so real that we cannot even be a dream and yet, we are fake enough to keep up with time. Once upon a time when I was your age, seated where you are now, a man coming up to me with gray hair, a messy beard, face full of scars, giving me sermons would also get on my nerves. Yet now that very kid finds himself in the nonesense that makes him feel obliged to say these things. And that’s why this distortion of time smacks me in the face. A child’s thoughts should never get injured, fallen with knees bleeding… A child should not close up inside and weep night upon night. No thoughts in his or her mind should stare with scared eyes behind thick curtains. In the contrary, a child should always stay with the play. Those thoughts should never grow up. A child should never have to let go of mum and dad’s hands. One day when he gets lonely, when he gets lost in the blackest parts of the dark, a hand should hold his, from where he sounded. Darkness always prowled for a chance to pull children in. To take them to it’s much beloved blackness, without looking over the shoulder. You have not yet met the black child. In fact, no child should ever have met it!

“What did you do when you did meet it then?”

I changed child. Perhaps words don’t convey the feeling of living. Perhaps speaking, is nothing but dry noise. Yet change means a lot more than the total of millions of words. One day you make a meaning and no other meaning can rescue you from it. I found myself inside my head one day, out of the blue. I didn’t know how deep I would go. Because sometimes, in order to face things, you needed to take risks again. I know you believe that you will be happy without getting yourself hurt. But you won’t be. I used to think that I could take the wind on my back and run for days, for months. Children dream of fantastic dreams before sleeping, I know you do too. Making plans in your head, plotting how to win the heart of the girl you like in school. You want to fly with her for example. You want to show her the whole of the sky. I know, there is not an ounce of selfishness in you neither. You take pleasure from making others happy. Otherwise the clouds are not the issue. Neither is drifting alone up there, the deal is to become the smile on someone else’s face.

“You cannot know all this. Besides, I don’t even know you. You just came and sat next to me.

My mom’s is going to come in a minute, she’s getting me some water right now. She warns me often about not talking to people I don’t know. She might be mad at me for talking to you.”

Your mother’s right, son. You’ll never know who is dark and who is bright. Even in time, your faith in your mother and father will begin to fade away. When you are a child you think there are no other truths but your father and mother in this whole universe. But that broken time moves in such ways that, you understand, truths are only contained within themselves. Truth, is you yourself in fact. It is the step you are going to take in a second, true. It is to swallow, to blink or to breath, that’s right. Because boy, there will be mistakes on your path, that will take your breath away.

“Did these scratches on your face come from those things?”

Yes, you got it. We can say that’s exactly what happened. These scratches or wounds or whatever their names are. Just experiences. Each one is a sign to remember the past. Look, kid, your mum is about to get back. Be gone from here before she comes. But there’s one last thing I want to tell you. Once you get off this bench and leave, never remember this old man’s face but always remember what he said. Because a day will come when even to be told a few wise words you’ll be wishing upon some silly star. There are so many up there in the sky that you cannot know which really listens to you. And right there, among them you will keep looking for the brightest one. That is Sirius. Every star shimmers but not as much as Sirius… You will come to think that somewhere out there, this one will be the most precious. Many people will cross through your life child. Some will drag you so far down an unhappiness that it will become the darkest star in the sky. But others will make you so happy that it will become your brightest star again, in a moment’s flash. Yet you will grasp this not when you look at them, but only when they slide. Don’t ask why child. It’s what it is, like I said this thing time is broke. I lost a star myself. It had become my Sirius. I watched it for years and years but never spoke a word to it. If I had, I couldn’t have done much but to plead it would never extinguish its light. But rather than speaking to it, I looked at it with all my heart. I watched it from the prettiest places I could see it, placed it in the depths of my heart filled with infinite beauties. Perhaps during the time it soared the skies many looked at it. Many spoke to it, yet no one sacrificed as much as I. Sometimes to love a thing, meant forever not to speak. Talking never solved anything. I loved more, the quieter I was. So one day as it was sliding away, it flared a light at me. It shimmered. I understood right then, that even if time may do all it can to deceive us, even a falling light enlights the path ahead. Go on now child, there your mum comes.

 “Do you know my mother?”

I just guessed. Go carefully.

Actually, I knew more than you thought, child. I knew that your favourite color was blue, the number 7 brings you luck all over your life, I know that girl you spend nights tussling and turning in bed alone to be beside, to see, that blond haired pretty girl, your obsessions, your dreams, I know this park bench you come to sit when you are troubled, I know the person you want to be and of course these marks that will surface on your skin eventually. It is so strange child, this bench, this bitter wind, this thick snow falling and this gray haired, scarred man. This thing time, is broken. In fact it does not move forward, we just like to think that it does. Whatever life we are living, we hope for time to pass us by. Because all of us, one day, are afraid of time coming to a halt. If someday we believe time will stop, the past, the future and the now will all get connected. When all the times in the sky and the earth are united, people will see the true, striking face of reality.  When they notice it is time itself, they will understand, if they are well time is well, if they are bad, so is time.

Time froze child. Look, here lies the past and the future…
